UEFA Europa League 2024-25 matches: When are UEL games on this season's schedule?

The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League follows the UEFA Champions League and adopts a new format that deviates from tradition.

In both competitions, the usual group phase was dispensed with and replaced by a “league phase” that lasts from mid-September to the end of January. This means that all teams in the main draw will play eight games instead of six in the early stages of the competition, increasing the likelihood of “big” teams competing against each other early in the tournament.

UEFA hopes the changes will lead to a more exciting Europa League from the start, with teams such as Manchester United, AS Roma and Ajax facing more significant opponents before the final rounds.

UEFA Europa League 2024-25 schedule

League phase:

  • First match day: 25-26 September 2024
  • Second match day: Oct 3, 2024
  • Third match day: Oct 24, 2024
  • Fourth matchday: November 7, 2024
  • Fifth matchday: November 28, 2024
  • Sixth matchday: December 12, 2024
  • Seventh matchday: January 23, 2025
  • Eighth matchday: January 30, 2025

Knockout phase:

  • Knockout round playoffs: February 13th and 20th, 2025
  • Round of 16: March 6 and 13, 2025
  • Quarterfinals: April 10 and 17, 2025
  • Semifinals: May 1st and 8th, 2025
  • Final: May 21, 2025

Due to the new format of the Europa League, the first phase, now called the “league phase”, will last slightly longer than the previous group phase. The first matchday begins on September 25th, the last eighth matchday does not take place until January 30th, 2025. Traditionally, Europa League matches largely take place on Thursdays, the same week as UEFA Champions League matches on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The playoff round for the knockout phase takes place in mid-February, with the remaining elimination rounds taking place in March, April and May.

The 2024/25 Champions League final will be played on May 21, 2025 at San Mames in Bilbao.
