YouTube increases the length of videos in Shorts to 3 minutes

YouTube has announced significant updates to its Shorts video service. Starting October 15, content creators will be able to upload videos up to three minutes long. This feature was particularly requested by users given the competition from TikTok, which allows uploading videos up to 10 minutes in length.

YouTube is also introducing a template feature that allows creators to reuse formats from other Shorts. This makes it easier to create trendy content, but it can result in monotonous videos. The new feature will be available via a “Remix” button in the video.

YouTube is actively promoting Shorts as an alternative to TikTok, adding similar features and offering financial incentives to creators. However, the company also recognizes that some users prefer longer videos and is introducing the Show Less Short Videos option to temporarily reduce the number of short videos in a user's feed.
