A tragic car accident in Sandy Spring, Maryland, left Sherwood High School senior Sanaa Virtue Vil dead and two other teenagers critically injured.

BROOKEVILLE, Md. – A Maryland community is reeling after the death of a high school senior in a car crash Wednesday.

Sanaa Vil, 17, was driving to school with two teenage passengers Wednesday morning when she lost control of the car and collided with a wooden telephone frame near Norwood Road and Ashton Forest Way in Sandy Spring, according to police. They were pronounced dead at the scene and the other two teenagers had to be removed from the vehicle.

On Thursday evening, more than a dozen friends of Sanaa Vil gathered outside her home to honor her memory and comfort her family. She was described by mourners as beautiful and radiant.

“Sanaa was an angel to me,” said her twin brother Joshua Vil. “We did everything together.” Play sports, do activities, go to church.

Sanaa Vil's father tearfully recalled the last moments with his daughter as she walked out the door and headed to school

“Before the accident, I was the last person to kiss her and say goodbye before I left,” said the teen's father. “She said she had to pick up two people. I said it was raining, but she still went to pick up the other two students to go to school.”

Sanaa Vil played varsity basketball at Sherwood High School and was an active member of the Black Student Union and school band. She was loved by all her friends. She leaves behind three siblings and two loving parents.

“Sanaa was someone very special,” said a friend named Candace. “I was going through a tough time and she was always there for me.” I will miss her so much.

The other two teenagers from the crash are expected to recover.

Montgomery County police are still investigating what exactly happened in the moments before the crash.

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs.
