A man's drug arrest near Othello High School raises concerns

An Othello man is back in custody after his second drugs arrest in a week.

On September 26, Oscar Reyes-Terezon was detained on suspicion of illegal activities near school grounds. Reyes-Terezon reportedly lives within walking distance of Othello High School. According to city police, he sold drugs – marijuana laced with methamphetamine – to OHS students.

“A vigilant principal observed how many students were going there [Reyes-Terezon’s] house,” said Detective Sgt. Brent McFarlane.

The suspected drug dealer was arrested again on Thursday. His two arrests were closely linked — “the same incident, so to speak,” McFarlane says.

“Our [student resource officers] “They initially arrested him because of what they found,” McFarlane said. “They interviewed the children and then made contact [Reyes-Terezon] and determined he was in possession of narcotics.” The narcotics “matched the description of what the kids told our SROs.” Some of the kids said, 'Hey, he has these kind of baggies, this, that and the other .'”

“As we continued to investigate, we concluded that there was sufficient probable cause to search his residence. So we went back, searched the apartment and found something more Narcotics.”

A search of the apartment uncovered significant amounts of marijuana and methamphetamine. According to McFarlane, Reyes-Terezon is housed at the Sunnyside City Jail as of press time.

Reyes-Terezon has no known history of illegality, McFarlane says: “We have nothing on him at all.”

According to McFarlane (“We used their K9 – their drug dog”), Airway Heights police assisted in the investigation.
