Dodgers News: Padres' likely starters announced for NLDS matchup

The Padres announced the projected starters for Games 1 and 2 of the NLDS at Dodger Stadium this weekend.

Dylan Cease and Yu Darvish are the expected primary starters for San Diego. Cease and Darvish will face Jack Flaherty and Yoshinobu Yamamoto at Chavez Ravine.

Both the Dodgers and Padres plan to use right-handers in the first two games of the NLDS.

Cease posted a 3.47 ERA this season. He has a record of 14-11 in 33 starts.

“I feel like if I'm in good shape mechanically and mentally prepared and know what pitches to make and where, then it doesn't matter when I pitch,” Cease told reporters Thursday. “It was very refreshing to come to an organization that has such a high commitment to winning and trying to get to the World Series and win the World Series.”

Cease previously played for the Chicago White Sox. The club's poor season gave Chicago a record-worst season in baseball. The right-hander escaped the White Sox at the end of spring training.

Cease joined the Padres just days before their season opener in Seoul, Korea. The right-hander joined Darvish, Joe Musgrove and Michael King in the Padres' starting rotation.

Darvish is expected to be the Game 2 starter for San Diego. He missed part of the season due to a groin injury and a family emergency.

The 38-year-old right-hander has a 7-3 record with a 3.31 ERA in 16 starts this season. Darvish has plenty of experience as a pitcher at Dodger Stadium, having been a member of the Dodgers in 2017.

The memories of Darvish during his time with the Dodgers are quite painful for most fans. The memory that usually sticks in mind is seeing Darvish rocked in Games 3 and 7 of the World Series against the Houston Astros.

Darvish was heavily criticized for his performance at Minute Maid Park, but it was later discovered that the Astros were using technology to steal the Dodgers' signs.

The former Dodger has proven he is still effective, but the Dodgers lineup will have to do its best to get the bats going against Darvish.

Cease and Darvish are two solid starters for the Padres and Los Angeles' lineup has a big task ahead of it.
