Troy Austin convicted of killing Samantha Rhone in Vallejo

Prosecutors say Troy Austin killed his girlfriend in Vallejo more than eight years ago.

VALLEJO, Calif. – A Solano County man was convicted Wednesday of murdering his girlfriend in Vallejo in 2016.

According to the Solano County District Attorney's Office, a jury found Troy Austin guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Samantha Rhone.

According to prosecutors, the couple had been dating for about five years and Rhone suffered from domestic violence.

On May 19, 2016, people around Wallace Avenue in Vallejo heard a woman screaming for help, looked out the window and saw Austin kicking and stomping on Rhone.

Upon arrival, Rhone began to pass out but told officers that Austin had hit her. She was hospitalized and died of internal bleeding from her injuries.

Austin was found hiding in a neighbor's backyard and gave officers a false name. He told investigators he “freaked out” and hit Rhone because “she wasn’t listening.”

He is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday on a previous strike charge.
