Pittsfield man arrested in stabbing, faces multiple charges

PITTSFIELD — A Pittsfield resident has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that left another man in critical condition earlier this week, police said Thursday.

Rajiv Hanger, 24, was arrested Thursday afternoon by members of the Pittsfield Police Department and the Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force.

He is charged with armed assault with intent to murder and bodily harm after a violent altercation on Kent Avenue on Tuesday.

The victim, a 30-year-old Pittsfield man, was found with at least one stab wound and taken to Berkshire Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Hanger, who was also charged with being a fugitive from justice because of outstanding affairs in Maine, is expected to be arraigned in Pittsfield District Court.

Authorities are still seeking information from the public about the stabbing.
