Senator from Ohio and Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance went viral this week after a series of his sideways glances during the Vice President Debate drew comparisons with the figure “Jim Halpert' from the famous TV show 'Office'. However, Vance explained that his now-famous look was not intentional.
JD Vance, Republican Donald Trump's vice presidential candidate, debated Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz, Kamala Harris' Democratic pick, before the November elections.During the debate, Vance glanced frequently CBS News camera, leading to comparisons to Jim's character from “Office.”

Vance explained on “The Ruthless Podcast” that he wasn't intentionally looking at the camera and was trying to channel Jim Halpert's signature grin into the CBS News camera. Instead, he just looked at a nearby timer to control his speaking time.

“This thing that went super viral that I did something like 'Jim from 'The Office'…I wish I could take credit for that,” Vance said. “But that’s because I think the timer is right next to the camera.”
Even if it was unintentional, Vance took the attention in stride and enjoyed the amusement his stares provoked, saying, “It made a million viral memes. That’s why I’m glad they did it that way.”
On the podcast, Vance also admitted to being “nervous as hell” during the debate. However, he said he knows he did well with his wife Usha VanceHe then accompanied him on stage. “I looked at Usha's face and I just knew – I thought, oh shit, we must have done a very good job,” he recalled, adding: “Usha isn't lying to me, and especially her face isn't lying to me.” not on, and I knew at that moment that we had a very good debate.”
As the Nov. 5 election approaches, this debate could be the last time they face each other head-to-head.
Debate moderator CBS News conducted a brief audience poll following the event. The results showed that 42 percent of viewers believed Vance was the winner, while 41 percent supported Walz and 17 percent thought it was a draw.
