According to Caldwell police, a man was arrested after a chase

Fernando Juarez, 32, was arrested Thursday after speeding away from police, which ended in a pit maneuver on South Indiana Avenue near Karcher Road.

CALDWELL, Idaho — A man was arrested after leading police on a chase and standoff in Caldwell Thursday evening.

The Caldwell Police Department (CPD) said at approximately 6 p.m., officers as part of Operation Safe Streets attempted to arrest 32-year-old Fernando Juarez on drug and weapons charges. Officers found Juarez in a parking lot near Franklin Road and Pearl Street, and when told he was under arrest, he fled.

During the chase, police said they used “stop sticks” to stop Juarez and punctured his vehicle's tires.

“Despite this, Juarez continued to drive on his rims, reaching speeds of approximately 50 miles per hour and continuing to endanger the community,” police said in a news release.

CPD said Juarez continued to evade officers and drove along Indiana, Ustick, Montana and Karcher roads. The chase ended with a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver on South Indiana Avenue south of Karcher Road, and Juarez's vehicle came to rest in an irrigation ditch.

After a brief standoff with police, Juarez was arrested, CPD said. A gun was found in his waistband and drugs were also found.

According to police, no one was injured in the incident.
