A viral video shows thousands of Indian students lining up for waitressing jobs amid growing unemployment in Canada

A news clip from a multilingual Canadian broadcaster has caused widespread concern among students planning to move to Canada to study or work. The video, which quickly went viral, serves as a stark warning and shakes the hopes of many international students who see the country as their destination.

Check out the video here:

The report comes from Brampton, Canada, where video captures a breathtaking scene: a long line of people waiting outside the Tandoori Flame restaurant – not for a meal, but for a chance to interview for waiter and valet positions rolled into one restaurant opened nearby. Shockingly, around 3,000 students, mostly Indians, gathered to submit their CVs.

One job seeker commented: “People just come here and drop off their CVs. They will shortlist the candidates. I don't think there are any job opportunities here. It’s really hard.”

Another echoed the frustration, adding: “It's so bad, like everyone is looking for a job and no one gets the right job.” So many of my friends don't have a job at the moment and have been here for two to three years .”

The X post that accompanied the video illustrates the stark reality: “Students leaving India for Canada with rosy dreams need some serious introspection!”

How did people react?

The comments section reflected the concern sparked by the video.

One user noted: “Alarming if true. Canada is facing massive unemployment. I haven’t seen so many youth queuing up for jobs in new restaurants even in India.”

Another shared a personal story:

One pointed out the paradox and said, “They take any job there but are afraid to do the same job here in India.” Of course, working conditions and pay are far better in Canada than in India.”

Another pointed out that the study abroad system itself is crooked and will inevitably collapse in the next three to four years:

One comment hit me hard: “The worst thing is that most of them are engineers, MBA graduates and IT engineers who had a job in India with a monthly salary of up to RS 100,000 and are coming here to pursue their Canada dream to be realized!! These students are depressed and struggling! Not everything that glitters is gold!!! Stay away.”
