Contractor dies after on-site incident at OCI Beaumont

The victim was identified as Cameron Powell, 36, of Vidor.

NEDERLAND, Texas – An investigation is underway after a contractor died following a fall at the OCI Beaumont Clean Ammonia Complex Thursday morning.

The victim was identified as Cameron Powell, 36, of Vidor. His family has been notified.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at the Beaumont Clean Ammonia site, owned by Woodside Energy and managed by OCI.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Captain Crystal Holmes, officers were dispatched to the construction site in the 6300 block of Twin City Highway for an injured worker who had fallen while working in a tank.

Due to his injuries, the man was taken to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Judge Chesson ordered an autopsy.

No other people were injured and all workers were accounted for.

“This is a very sad day and I extend my deepest condolences to our colleague's family, friends and co-workers,” said Woodside CEO Meg O'Neill. “The safety of our workforce is always our top priority and we provide full support” to OCI and its contractor.

O'Neill says the company is taking steps to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

They work with authorities, regulators, OCI and the contractor company.

“A full investigation is underway and all work is currently halted,” O’Neil said.

Woodside's senior management works to support employees.
