The Fravel trial for the murder of Madeline Kingsbury begins next week in Mankato

A year and a half after a Winona-area woman was murdered, her former boyfriend is headed to trial in southern Minnesota.

The Winona County judge in Adam Fravel's trial has made decisions about what testimony can be used in court during the trial, which begins Monday in Mankato. The case was moved to Blue Earth County due to high publicity in Winona and the trial is expected to last approximately three weeks.

Fravel

Fravel is accused of killing Madeline Kingsbury in early 2023. Kingsbury's remains were found in June last year, weeks after she was reported missing.

During pretrial proceedings this week, Winona Judge Nancy Buytendorp ruled that some statements or information about murder victim Kingsbury that addressed abuse and safety would not be admitted.

Fravel, Kingsbury's former boyfriend, is suspected of committing the crime in the Winona area and dumping her body in another county. Searches and public vigils were conducted during the two months that Kingsbury was reported missing.
