Father was killed in incident at construction site

The construction worker who died in a horrific workplace incident in Perth's north has been identified as an Irish father and fiancé.

Emergency services were called to a construction site on the Mitchell Freeway off-ramp near Warwick Rd in Greenwood at midday on Thursday.

Barry Breslin, a 35-year-old Irishman, suffered a serious head injury while working at the construction site.

St John Ambulance took the man to Royal Perth Hospital; However, Mr Breslan died shortly after arriving at hospital.

The 35-year-old was engaged to his partner, with whom he had a young son.

He reportedly grew up in Donegal, Ireland, but lived in Australia for years before his death.

His Gaelic football club expressed its condolences to Mr Breslin's loved ones in an emotional tribute on Facebook.

“It was a huge shock to all of us when news of Barry’s untimely death in Australia reached us this morning,” the post reads.

“Barry played for the club at an underage level for many years and is fondly remembered by the players and everyone involved at the time.

“And to his mother Mary, a tireless volunteer and supporter of our club over the years, our thoughts are with you and your family and we extend our prayers to all of you at this sad time.”

A WorkSafe spokesperson said Mr Breslin was “hit by a dropped piece of equipment”, with WorkSafe officer Sally North offering her condolences to the 35-year-old's family, according to 7News.

The WA branch of the CFMEU confirmed the incident was the tenth fatality at a construction site across the state this year alone.

The union said its investigation had “just begun.”

“We know the incident involved an excavator and lifting equipment, but we will not speculate on the tragic circumstances until we have the facts,” the union said.

“All we know is that tragically one worker did not return home today.”
