Ghost' concludes the series and announces further franchise expansion

SPOILER ALERT: Key plot points from the series finale of Starz' Power Book II: Ghost are revealed below.

After four short seasons, Staz's Power Book II: Ghost is officially over after tonight's series finale titled “Ghost in the Machine.” This won't be a recap of the episode, as we'll be breaking it all down tomorrow with two of the show's biggest stars, but rather it's about discussing Tariq St. Patrick's (Michael Rainey Jr.) Marvel moment, if you will the end of the episode after the credits.

Baby Ghost, as Tariq is often called, will live to see another day, and with that came more Performance is in front. What that means to me is that they can continue to tell stories through Tariq in a new show set in the present. Added to this is the upcoming series finale of Power Book IV: PowerLed by franchise OG Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora), who better to work with Tariq than his Uncle Tommy? If you ask me, that was Tommy on the phone with Tariq.

There was a lot of bad blood between Tariq and his father's best friend, but everything seemed to clear up in the last two episodes Power Book II: GhostSeason 3 with a little help from Tariq's mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton).

So if a new series is planned, I expect it will feature Tommy and Tariq on a quest to take over the criminal underworld. There is simply no way to end the current timeline, but I won't dare prove myself wrong either – just in case.

With Spirit And Violence soon fully completed, Power Book III: Raising Kanan will continue the previous timeline and be supplemented by the newly announced series Originsthe younger versions of Tommy and Ghost (played by Omari Hardwick in the Mothership series) will follow. Past Tommy and Ghost eventually bond with Past Kanan (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson in Perfomance, Mekai Curtis in Educate Kanan) anyway, so it's logical to assume that the shows could consolidate at some point.

All of these power moves come after Starz CEO Jeff Hirsch announced in March his intention to rein in content costs by developing new shows rather than maintaining series longer as they become more expensive.

Power Book II: Ghost boasted a long list of sought-after talent from the world of television and film as well as recording artists, including Mary J. Blige, Clifford “Method Man” Smith Jr., Larenz Tate and Michael Ealy, to name a few. Power Book IV: Power brought a former great football star into the team with Isaac Keys in the lead role as David “Diamond” Sampson. It wouldn't surprise anyone if the new franchise shows featured more up-and-coming talent, and established actors perhaps had more recurring or guest roles.

What is certain is that by confirming Tariq at the end of tonight's episode, the show's creative team and the network are committed to this franchise and expanding the universe.
