Police say no arrests have been made in the murder of two 18-year-old women in Hooper Bay

Alaska State Troopers say they are investigating the deaths of two 18-year-old women in the southwest Alaska village of Hooper Bay after they were found dead early Wednesday.

Cops said Thursday that Novely Rivers and Abigail Olson were found at a residence shortly before 5:30 a.m

There were no arrests as of Thursday afternoon.

“Based on evidence at the scene, the deaths are being investigated as a homicide and the Alaska Bureau of Investigation has assumed responsibility for the case,” law enforcement officials said in an online message Thursday. “Ten troopers from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation and Western Alaska Patrol responded to assist in the investigation.”

Troopers spokesman Austin McDaniel said in an email that he did not have detailed information to release Thursday due to the “active and ongoing investigation.” Both women's bodies were sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies.

Hooper Bay, with a population of about 1,300, is located on the coast of the Bering Sea in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

Officers asked anyone with information who has not yet spoken to investigators to call 907-543-2294 or submit anonymous tips through the AKTips smartphone app or online.
