“Poor Stipe” – Jon Jones' crazy training session has fans worried about Miocic and Tom Aspinall ahead of UFC 309

It looks like this Jon Jones is ready to unleash hell when he enters the cage UFC 309 against Stipe Miocic! The two titans were originally scheduled to meet at UFC 295, but a torn pectoral tendon suffered by “Bones” during training delayed their showdown to November 16th of this year. The venue? The iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City.

With the new date for the long-awaited duel now set, Jones recently closed the curtain on his training for the fight. In a recent video shared on Instagram, “Bones” can be seen pounding on a heavy bag on the ground. Jones had captioned the post: “My guy JP is unlocking new skills” Since the video also featured a professional heavyweight boxer, Joseph Parkerwhich gives his abilities a new dimension.

Jones' choice of weapon in the video? 12-6 elbow fights, the ban of which will be lifted from November 1st according to a recent decision by the ABC (Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports). But that's not all, because the rule change also redefines what constitutes a grounded opponent! According to the new criteria, a fighter is only considered “on the ground” if “any part of their body other than hands or feet“comes into contact with the Octagon screen.

Meanwhile, there were numerous reactions to Jones' post as UFC fans expressed both their admiration and fear for his next opponent! Here's a look at what the fandom had to say.

Fans raise alarm bells for Stipe Miocic and Tom Aspinall as Jon Jones reveals creepy training footage

Tom Aspinall, who currently holds the interim heavyweight title and has defended it once, will also face Jon Jones. He recently announced that he is the alternate for UFC 309, but according to fans, Jones would rather show off his techniques in training on a “bag” than face the deadly British champion in a unification bout!

“Bro would rather fight a sack on the ground than Tom Aspinall (I would do that too, by the way)”

Some couldn't help but root for Stipe Miocic, who now faces the looming challenge of Jones' renewed skills and the unleashing of his 12-6 elbow game. While there are concerns about the former champion's chances against Jones due to his long break from the cage, Chael Sonnen sees the situation differently. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, the UFC veteran shared: “Jon Jones took some time, gained some weight, took on Ciryl Gane and looked better than he had in years. So, Stipe took some time, he gained some weight, but we're going to give him the benefit of the doubt and see if he looks better than he has in years?”

“Poor stalk”

Since his debut at UFC 87 in 2008, the only blemish on Jones' remarkable MMA record is his 2009 loss to Matt Hamill through a disqualification. The reason? The ban on 12-6 elbows at the time. But with the weapon now back in Jones' arsenal, fans are excited to see how he uses this move to destroy his upcoming opponents.

“Ik Jones is drooling to hit a 12/6 elbow (legally) again and I’m here for it!!”

Others had an opposite opinion when making a prediction about what would happen at UFC 309! The fan pointed out that Jones would win by submission and gave an exact time and round for it.

“UFC 309: Jon prevails via submission with exactly 2 minutes and 6 seconds remaining in Round 1.”

Some fans even pointed out that the Ground-n-Pound was a preview of what would happen if their “GOAT” faced Tom Aspinall in the Octagon. While the announcement of Aspinall's backup status for UFC 309 sparked some hope among fans wanting to see a unification fight, Daniel Cormier isn't entirely sure. On an episode of the Good Guy/Bad Guy show, the former champion shared: “When Jon Jones was first injured, Sergei Pavlovich was the backup fighter. Who fought? If anyone gets hurt, prepare for Tom Aspinall vs Ciryl Gane. Mark my words.”
