Hans Zimmer concert at Oakland Arena postponed due to security incident: police

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) — According to police, Hans Zimmer's concert at the Oakland Arena on Thursday night was postponed due to a security incident.

Police responded to the incident around 7:30 p.m., delaying the start of the show for more than an hour.

The closure caused significant traffic backups on I-880 and on the pedestrian bridge at the Coliseum BART station as hundreds of concertgoers arrived to see the legendary composer perform.

“We were standing in line and when we got to the front gate they closed the gate in front of us and told us they had to deal with a security situation before they would open it,” said Brett Strommen, one of those waiting outside.

People already on the show had to wait while the investigation took place.

Some told us it wasn't made clear to them what was going on.

The gates were reopened around 9 p.m

We have contacted Oakland police – they have not confirmed what caused the delay and closure.

We also reached out to Oakland Arena but did not receive a response.
