Woman convicted of killing her ex with animal tranquilizer

An Ohio woman who killed her estranged husband with a fatal dose of an animal tranquilizer was sentenced this week to 40 years in prison. Amanda Hovanec, 37, and her husband Timothy were on the verge of divorce when she began withholding her three daughters from him in 2020, despite a court order allowing him visits. In April 2022, a judge ordered that the children not only be allowed to visit their father, but also that they could live with him for two months that summer. People Reports. It was on April 24 of the same year that Hovanec attacked her ex with an injection of M-99, also known as M-99, after he dropped the children off after a visit and Hovanec's mother took them for a “surprise.” her mother had promised them, took home like etorphine, which is about 1,000 times more powerful than morphine, NBC News reports.

The attack was partially captured on dashcam video from Timothy Hovanec's car, in which he can be heard saying, “What the fuck are you doing?” Did you just attack me? Get off me.” Amanda Hovanec is seen pulling on his shirt and hands as he tries to grab his phone, then slaps the phone out of his hands; She then put him on the ground and held him there on the driveway until he went limp, authorities say. She later confessed to killing her ex so she wouldn't have to send her children to live with him in the summer, and admitted to burying his body in the woods near her home. She pleaded guilty to, among other things, distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death. Her mother and her lover were accused of helping to dispose of the body, and her lover was also accused of obtaining the drug that killed Hovanec. (More Ohio stories.)
