Man convicted of fatal shooting over 'botched drug deal'

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A judge sentenced a man Wednesday for shooting and killing someone last year in connection with a “botched drug deal” on the West Side.

Jorge Luevano will serve a 20-year sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder with a firearm enhancement in July. Luevano was accused of shooting and killing 18-year-old Adrian Porras in his car in June 2023.

Albuquerque police say evidence on social media showed Porras was there to buy marijuana in Luevano. They also used the same evidence to link Luevano to the crime scene. They also discovered that he was wearing a GPS ankle monitor at the time of the murder, which he had been required to wear after a previous shooting. They said this was his second attack on the courts at the time.

Two weeks after the murder, a judge ordered Luevano to remain in prison until his trial. Prosecutors successfully argued that this alleged third attack was a compelling argument.
