Georgia woman McKayla Harshaw was killed in a horrific seven-car pileup just before her boyfriend was about to propose, days before her 25th birthday

A love story came to a tragic end in Georgia after a 24-year-old woman died in a horrific seven-car pileup last month – just before her boyfriend was reportedly about to propose and just days before her birthday.

McKayla Harshaw was killed in the afternoon crash while her boyfriend, Andrew Perez, was driving on I-75 in Atlanta on Sept. 27 and she was in the passenger seat

Georgia State Troopers said the fatal multi-car crash was triggered when two vans collided with a third van that collided with the couple's Toyota Corolla, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Harshaw was killed when the couple's car rolled over in the impact.

Seven vehicles were involved in the accident, which shut down the highway for hours and six other people were injured.

Harshaw was the only person to die in the devastating crash.

According to Harshaw's family, Perez is fighting for his life after suffering a fractured skull and a broken neck and back.

Hawshaw's mother, Melissa Gunther, revealed that she learned from Perez's brother that his sibling was preparing to propose to Harshaw before the horrific accident.

Harshaw's death occurred just four days before her 25th birthday.

“My dearest daughter, McKayla Harshaw, you should have been 25 today, but this afternoon I realized you will be 24 forever. We miss your smile and your courageous personality,” Gunther wrote on Facebook. “We miss you so much. Happy 25th birthday to my beautiful girl.”

According to her online obituary, Harshaw worked as a nanny.

Harshaw was described as a “shining light of the world” who was an avid hiker and climber in her hometown of Marietta, Georgia, and “loved to model.”

“McKayla will be remembered as a selfless lighthouse who touched hundreds of lives and inspired others to overcome life’s challenges,” the obituary reads.

Gunther added that her daughter doesn't have health insurance and started a GoFundMe to help the family pay for funeral expenses. As of this report, the fundraiser has raised nearly $18,000 of its $20,000 goal.

Harshaw is survived by her parents, brother and grandparents. A memorial service is planned for October 5th.
