How the Internet Killed Design

It is said that modern communication began with Gutenberg and his press in the 15th century. In comparison, desktop publishing only began in 1985 with Pagemaker. The time between these two milestones took us from handwritten typesetting to digital typography with impressive controls and beautiful color printing. And it only took 545 years!

The digital revolution began at the end of the 20th century. Before that, most of this century was pieced together with rubber bands, string, and spit. Analogue technology such as simple chemistry and 19th century vacuum tubes were cleverly combined to create entirely new forms of communication. Like photography, radio and television.
