Dozens of cows killed in Union County accident | News

HARTLEY TOWNSHIP – More than 30 cows were killed in a car crash late Thursday evening along Route 45 and Bear Run Road on the edge of Hartley Township, Union County.

According to Milton State Trooper Sara Barrett, 30 to 40 cows suffered fatal injuries after a truck pulling the animals failed to negotiate a curve, struck a guide rail and overturned. The crash occurred just before midnight.

The driver, whose name was not released, was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries, she said.

The truck was transporting 90 cows. The animals not killed in the accident remained in the area until they were transported to nearby farms, Barrett said.

Police said the driver will likely face traffic charges.

State Police were assisted at the scene by officers from Union County, Center County and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
