Cody Johnson Murder: The search continues for the suspected mugger who killed a 19-year-old on the I-10 Katy Freeway a week ago

KATY, Texas (KTRK) — A family is again pleading to find the murderer of their 19-year-old son. Officers believe it may have been a road rage incident in the Katy area.

Cody Johnson was shot a week ago on the I-10 Katy Freeway near SH-99 Grand Parkway.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit will hold a press conference with Johnson's family Friday morning. They are seeking information from the public that could lead to an arrest in the case.

This press conference is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m

On Friday, Sept. 27, officials said a passerby reported Johnson's car slowly rolling down the street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the 19-year-old dead inside.

No witnesses have come forward, which is why Johnson's parents have already shared photos of their son's black Camaro with gold rims with ABC13. They consider it memorable and say since the shooting took place in a busy area, surely someone would have seen something.

Parents are pleading for answers after their son was killed in a possible Katy-area street attack that authorities are investigating.

His father said the car was loud and if anyone saw it driving on the road they would notice.

Johnson's parents describe their son as a “good kid.” They told ABC13 that the former student-athlete is “just getting his life back” after a horrific motorcycle accident over the summer prevented him from starting at Texas State. Johnson was well enough to work as a car salesman this week when he was killed in his own vehicle. Now all they want is closure.

“Please, as parents, we just want answers about our son and any clues, anything. Some dashcam.” [videos]. Anyone who saw anything in the area that night could simply contact Harris County Crime Stoppers to help us bring closure. “We don't want to let these people get anyone else and not do this to anyone else,” said Cody's mother, Amy Juneau.

Anyone with information about Johnson's death is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
