1 dead in tractor trailer crash in Jackson County, Iowa

One person is dead and two are injured in a tractor-trailer accident in Jackson County on Thursday, October 3rd.

JACKSON COUNTY, Iowa – One person is dead and two are injured after a tractor-trailer accident in Jackson County on Thursday, Oct. 3.

The accident occurred near the intersection of U.S. Route 61 and 196th Avenue, about 10 miles north of Maquoketa.

Officials say a tractor-trailer was traveling southbound in the outside lane of Route 61 when it struck the tractor, which was also traveling southbound on Route 61, partially in the outside lane and west edge of the road.

The impact sent the semi-truck into the west ditch, where it rolled over and came to a stop upright.

A 35-year-old person died in the accident. Her name is not being mentioned at this time.

Two other people injured in the crash were transported to area hospitals, one by helicopter.
