OVSRS takes part in Memorial Day for Murder Victims

The Office of Victims and Survivors Rights and Services (OVSRS) participated in the National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims.

The event was hosted by the Sacramento Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children (POMC). The event was held at the Howe Community Center in Sacramento and brought families and supporters together to honor loved ones lost to violence.

“I am very grateful that OVSRS was invited to the POMC National Homicide Victims Remembrance Day event. It gives those providing support and services the opportunity to see a victim through the eyes of their loved ones. (It) brings the human perspective to the forefront,” said Patricia Roy, restitution analyst at OVSRS. “The photos and shoes at the event were loving reminders of missing loved ones. (They are also) a valuable reminder of why survivors' voices need to be heard. I feel honored that we are involved in this very special and celebratory event.”

Honoring loved ones lost to violence

During the event, POMC unveiled a memorial bench designed to symbolize the lasting impact of the victims' lives. Many speakers shared stories and provided insight into the pain and resilience of families who have experienced the tragic loss of a loved one due to violence. An impressive exhibition of shoes and photos paid tribute to those who are no longer with us. Each shoe represented a life taken too soon.

OVSRS's commitment to supporting victims

OVSRS staff provided information about California's constitutional rights for victims, answered questions, and provided resources. Staff provided information about services available through CDCR and partner agencies. Your presence reinforces OVSRS' commitment to supporting victims and their families with compassion and understanding.
