Crash in Montcalm Co. leaves one dead and three injured

Officials said the impact of the crash caused the engine of one of the vehicles to eject.

MONTCALM COUNTY, Mich. – A crash in Fairplain Township Thursday evening left one person dead and three others injured, according to the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office.

Around 10 p.m., officers were dispatched to a crash on South Sheridan Road near Boyer Road.

According to MCSO, the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Audi driven by a 25-year-old West Bloomfield man was traveling northbound on South Sheridan Road when he attempted to pass another northbound vehicle.

Officers said that as the Audi attempted to pass the other vehicle, it collided head-on with a southbound 2016 Chrysler 200 driven by a 21-year-old man from Ionia.

The passenger in the Audi, a 19-year-old woman from Greenville, was killed in the crash, officials said.

MCSO said the drivers of the Audi and Chrysler were taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger in the Chrysler, a 15-year-old boy from Alma, was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials said the woman who died in the crash was not wearing a seat belt, but everyone else involved was believed to be wearing their seat belts.

The force of the impact ejected the Chrysler's engine.

The crash is under investigation.
