An Angola man was seriously injured after being thrown from a car in an accident on Thursday, police said

STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – The Steuben County Sheriff's Office says officers are investigating after a 25-year-old man from Angola was seriously injured in a crash Thursday morning.

Investigators said they were called around 7:30 a.m. to a crash in the area of CR 200 N near CR 200 E in rural Scott Township. When first responders arrived, they discovered that the driver had been ejected from the vehicle and was lying unconscious on the ground.

The department says the initial investigation shows the Angola man was speeding west on CR 200 N when a witness said he passed their vehicle at a “high rate of speed.”

The witness told the officer he then lost control and veered off the road before crashing into a tree. According to police, the man was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his SUV during the accident.

He was taken by ambulance to an area hospital and then flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center, where he remains in the intensive care unit for treatment, the department said.

The crash remains under investigation, investigators say. Officials said they were assisted by Angola Police, Angola Fire Department, Metz Fire Department and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division.
