Hearing scheduled for 1980 murder suspect

LIMESTONE CO., Ala. (WAFF) – A man accused of murdering a woman in Limestone County in 1980 and then stealing her baby is scheduled to appear in court, according to court documents.

Harold Schut's hearing is scheduled for October 25 in Athens. In a plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to the 1987 murder of Geneva Clemons.

This plea agreement should be revoked at the oral hearing.

Limestone County prosecutors said they opposed revoking the plea agreement and wanted his life sentence to stand.

Investigators said Schut killed Clemons before stealing her baby. They said he planned to sell the baby. However, the baby was later found on the side of the road.

Schut is currently serving a life sentence in Texas for a similar crime.
