Driver faces charges for leaving the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash in North St. Louis County

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A driver with a revoked license has been charged after leaving the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident in northern St. Louis County on Tuesday.

The St. Louis County District Attorney's Office has charged 87-year-old Donald Cross with leaving the scene of an accident that killed Joshua Stephens. Court records show a warrant has been issued for Cross' arrest with a $25,000 bond.

According to charging documents, Cross sideswiped the motorcycle Stephens was riding with a passenger in the 6400 block of Page Avenue in North St. Louis County. After hitting the motorcycle, Cross allegedly left the scene and another driver called 9-1-1.

According to a GoFundMe page set up by his family, Stephens was taken to a local hospital where he died Thursday.

Cross was interviewed by investigators and told them he “took his chances” when he left the scene of the accident, according to charging documents. Police determined that there was significant damage to his vehicle.

A member of Cross's family told police this was the second accident he had been involved in in the past two weeks, having previously rammed another vehicle off the side. Police said the suspect's driver's license was revoked.

A first court date has not been set.
