Joy Behar reveals her houseguests must bring their 'own linens and towels': 'I'm not an Airbnb'

Joy Behar is happy to host – as long as guests can adhere to certain guidelines.

On Thursday's episode of the podcast, host Brian Teta asked her about her feelings on houseguest etiquette The view: behind the table, Persist explained the material conditions for her stay with her.

“I like [house guests] but for a limited time,” she explains, noting, “I used to have a 24-hour rule that I told people.”

“Before I could even afford a housekeeper, but I had this little house somewhere, I would say bring your own sheets and towels and bring them home because I don't do your laundry,” the talk show host shared Moderator seems to be referring to friends staying in accommodation that is not their primary residence.

Another rule for Behar is to set a hard out.

“I'm strict and have no problem saying: 'So you come on Friday and leave on Sunday, right?'”

Teta suggests that her no-nonsense public persona means she can afford to be so outspoken, but Behar disagrees.

“Not because I’m Joy Behar, but because it’s the truth!” she says. “Do you think anyone wants to live with that kind of ambiguity? When should I go? Do you want me here?”

Teta points out that many hosts allow departure times to be vague so as not to offend their guests, but Behar says that prospect is “not for me.”

She even reveals a slightly trickier way to find out when guests are leaving than asking directly: “There are different ways to put it. 'What time does the bus leave?' for example,” she jokes.

Finally, she says that her skills as a host simply have their limits: “Also, I don't really feel like cooking for a lot of people. I don’t run an Airbnb, okay?”

Apparently, Teta has addressed the topic of houseguests overstaying in light of a story that went viral this week.

In a post shared on Reddit, an anonymous new mother wrote that her husband's parents, who live abroad, came for an extended two-month visit and she asked them to “stay somewhere else.”

The story made headlines as most commentators expressed support for the woman by drawing a line in the sand.
