One dead, one arrested in car crash in Independence

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. – One person is dead and another person has been arrested following a crash in Independence, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.

The accident occurred on Saturday, September 28 at approximately 6 p.m. in the 54000 block of N Larussa Lane

Investigators say 45-year-old Antonino Reyes Carcamo was driving a 2003 Ford Expedition and while attempting to make a left turn, he lost control and crashed into a tree. After hitting the tree, the SUV rolled over.

“There were six people in the vehicle at the time, including Carcamo,” TPSO said. “Five people suffered varying degrees of injuries and unfortunately 23-year-old Marisol Carcamo Vargas died at the scene.”

Carcamo was arrested after his release from the hospital on charges of homicide, driving under the influence and reckless operation of a vehicle.
