Maryland State Police Participate in National Drug Take Back Day 2024 – Southern Maryland News Net

Maryland State Police participate in the 27thTh National Drug Take Back Day as part of the ongoing fight against opioid addiction.

Police are asking people to drop off unwanted prescription medications at any of the 23 State Police barracks on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – no questions asked. All Maryland State Police barracks are equipped with secure drug collection boxes that are accessible 24 hours a day, year-round.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration and law enforcement agencies across the country. The semi-annual program provides individuals with the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted prescription medications while raising awareness about medication abuse.

During the most recent takeback in April, the DEA collected more than 10,500 pounds of unwanted drugs at nearly 93 collection sites in Maryland. This included more than £2,000 from the Maryland State Police.

Top barracks totals for April (in pounds):

  • Centerville Barracks – 695
  • Friedrich Barracks – 376
  • Glen Burnie Barracks – 188th
  • Leonardtown Barracks – 101st
  • Rockville Barracks – 80

Since 2014, Maryland State Police have successfully seized nearly 31,000 pounds of prescription drugs through the initiative. The largest single collection was 2,669 pounds in 2017. For more information about overdose response in Maryland, visit the Maryland Office of Overdose Response at
