Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson challenges James Harrison to an MMA fight

Former NFL stars Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson and James Harrison announced on social media this week that they will face off in an MMA competition before this year's Super Bowl in New Orleans.

“I’m so excited,” Johnson wrote on social media when making the announcement.

In a later post on [the] Super Bowl.”

However, there appears to be disagreement between Johnson and Harrison over how long the fight should last. Johnson wrote in his initial announcement that their MMA fight will be “3 rounds,” while Johnson texted him on X and said, “It's 5 rounds.”

“I blew your mind in Round 1 so don’t worry about the other 4,” Johnson wrote in a response.

Johnson, who has already competed in an MMA fight in 2021, appears confident he will emerge with a win over Harrison, who has never competed in an official fight.

“It won’t be much of a fight if I submit him with the guillotine. He becomes aggressive and underestimates my ground work. “I have a collection of grappling techniques and strategies where his strength doesn’t matter, an easy win for me,” Johnson wrote in a post on X on Thursday.

But Harrison countered with his own claim: “You won't be able to stand when I'm done with you.”

Harrison retired from the NFL after the 2017 season and won two Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers at the end of the 2005 and 2008 seasons. Since retiring from football, the former NFL linebacker has devoted himself to acting in recent years, playing the character “Apocalypse” in the Starz drama series PARAGRAPHSwhich is about professional wrestlers.

Johnson has dabbled in the world of fighting – both scripted and competitive. The retired NFL star once guest-hosted an episode of WWE in 2010 Monday Night RAWwhile he also faced Brian Maxwell on an MMA show during the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Logan Paul pay-per-view event. The fight ended in a draw between Maxwell and Johnson.

Aside from Johnson and Harrison's announcements about the fight, no official venue or date has yet been announced for the planned duel. Super Bowl LIX is scheduled to take place on February 9th at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
