Nashville mailman faces charges for delivering late mail after viral video

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A federal grand jury has dismissed charges against 33-year-old DuJuan Butler of Antioch after a viral video surfaced showing Butler throwing mail containers into two dumpsters.

Prosecutors say Butler was delivering mail in Antioch in August when a woman began filming the mailman from her window.

You can hear how the woman is shocked because someone has apparently dropped mail.

The video, which has since been viewed millions of times between TikTok and other social media platforms, caught the attention of the United States Postal Service. They quickly placed the carrier on off-duty status.

Later, USPS sent other postal workers to the dumpsters, where they collected as much discarded mail as possible.

U.S. Attorney Henry Leventis for the Middle District announced this week that Butler now faces up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000 on charges of unlawful retention and delay of mail.

The investigation is ongoing between USPS, the Office of Inspector General and the U.S. Attorney's Office.
