Man arrested for armed robbery near a daycare center in Fort Myers

A man was arrested for robbing a grandparent who was dropping off his grandchildren at a daycare center in Fort Myers. The incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. Thursday near Palmer Preschool and Day Care at 3808 Seago Lane. According to Fort Myers police, the man opened the door of the vehicle the victim was in, pointed a handgun at his chest and demanded money. The suspect then leaned over the victim, grabbed a purse from the passenger seat and ran eastbound from the scene. FMPD said they interviewed the victim. With the help of K-9 units, they were able to locate the purse and its contents east of the daycare. Brandon Harris, 38, was identified as a suspect during the investigation. FMPD detectives found Harris at his home on Friday and executed a search warrant. Investigators found the firearm used in the robbery as well as clothing he was reportedly wearing during the crime. Harris was arrested and is charged with robbery with a firearm and armed burglary of a conveyance. FMPD said additional charges are pending and he will be taken to the Lee County Jail. FMPD said the victim was not physically injured during the robbery.

FMPD said they searched the area and with the help of K-9 units, they were able to locate the purse and its contents east of the daycare.
