Man killed in high-speed crash on H-3 identified as Queen's Medical Center employee

KANEOHE (HawaiiNewsNow) – The man who died in a high-speed crash on the H-3 Freeway Wednesday night has been identified, authorities said.

The coroner's office identified the victim as 39-year-old Kevin Kauweloa.

Queen's Medical Center confirmed that Kauweloa was employed there.

Authorities said Kauweloa was driving onto H-3 at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a guardrail.

According to investigators, he continued driving before he left the road onto the shoulder, climbed a grassy embankment and rolled several times.

According to police, he was thrown from the vehicle when the car overturned.

The vehicle continued driving down a second grassy embankment where it struck a utility pole.

The utility pole then fell onto the roadway, blocking several lanes toward Honolulu.

Police said speed and alcohol appeared to be factors.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
