Children were found in a house filled with drugs during a raid in Volusia County

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VSO), two children were found inside a home after officers executed a search warrant and discovered numerous drugs.

According to the sheriff's office, officers executed the search warrant at a home at 409 Pelican Road at 6 a.m. Friday with assistance from VSO SWAT and the Volusia Bureau of Investigation (VBI). The search warrant was issued following complaints that a man identified as Rakim Shabazz was involved in a large-scale drug sale of cocaine and fentanyl.

When officers searched the home, they found Shabazz and his girlfriend, Sheanett Range, in the master bedroom of the home. The two children were found in separate bedrooms on opposite sides of the house, VSO said.

VSO said the children were released to a family friend after speaking with the children's mother, who did not live at the home.

After removing the children from the home, officers conducted a search of the home and found crack cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, oxycodone and more than 18 kilograms of powder cocaine, officials say.

Officers determined that Shabazz and Range were making and cutting drugs at home after also finding a kilo press, sieves, mannitol powder and mixers with cocaine and fentanyl residue, the sheriff's office said.

Shabazz and Range were both taken to the Volusia County Jail without bail, VSO said.

VSO said both were charged with child neglect and drug paraphernalia.
