Newly crowned WBA featherweight world champion Nick Ball will defend his crown against American veteran Ronny Rios in a homecoming clash on Saturday, October 5, at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England. The 12-round fight plus undercard action will be broadcast on ESPN+ in the US

Ball (20-0-1, 11 KOs) won the title in June by scoring a thrilling points triumph over previously unbeaten American Raymond Ford. It was a close fight on the 5v5 Queensberry vs. Matchroom card in Riyadh, but the judges favored Ball's aggression and harder punches over Ford's technical finesse.

“I can't wait to fight in Liverpool again, this time as world champion,” said Ball. “It's been over four years and it will be very special for me.

“Local interest in me and the other boys in the city is constantly growing and we all want to make Liverpool a regular destination for Frank and Queensberry. We have the fighters to achieve this and I am sure the people will stand behind all of us.

Rios (34-4, 17 KOs) is a two-time world title challenger who has competed with the best during his 16-year professional career. In 2017, the clever Californian was outclassed by Rey Vargas, who held Ball to a draw last year, and Rios was stopped in the 2022 finals by Murodjon Akhmadaliev.
