Chicago man accused of carjacking teenager in Jewel-Osco parking lot

OAK LAWN, IL – A Chicago man is accused of attacking a teenager who was sitting in her parked vehicle in a supermarket parking lot last Saturday evening, Oak Lawn police said. Damon Trout, 20, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated vehicular hijacking, a Class X felony

According to police, the teen was sitting in her parked vehicle at Jewel Osco, 8901 S. Ridgeland Ave., during the evening hours. A man with dreadlocks, a ski mask and armed with a pistol approached their parked vehicle. Police said the man ordered her to get out of the vehicle several times while waving the gun and threatening to shoot her.

The teenager got out of her car and ran away, while the man, later identified as Trout, sped away in her car, police said.

At approximately 1:15 a.m., Burbank police found the unoccupied, hijacked vehicle in the 8200 block of South Central Avenue. Both Oak Lawn police and Burbank police searched the area and found a man matching the description of the suspected carjacker armed with a loaded gun.

Trout, 20, was taken into custody and Burbank police charged him with unlawful use of a weapon.

Oak Lawn detectives were able to piece together events using camera footage from license plate readers and security video from Jewel-Osco. Police said Trout also confessed to stealing the vehicle.

Trout appeared at the Bridgeview Courthouse on Oct. 2 for a preliminary hearing. He was released on maximum conditions.
