'Pill Mill' doctor under 12 charged with racketeering, drug trafficking

Dr. Elaine Sharp, the Gulf Breeze doctor at the center of an alleged pill mill, is behind bars. Sharp, 72, was booked into the Escambia County Jail on Thursday, Oct. 3, and transferred to the Santa Rosa County Detention Center the next day. No charges were filed on the Escambia County Sheriff's Office Jail View website at this time, but the Florida Department of Law Enforcement announced the charges on Oct. 4. Sharp faces a number of charges including murder, manslaughter, conspiracy to commit racketeering and unlawful prescription for monetary gain, unlawful prescription not medically necessary, illegal trafficking of oxycodone in an amount of 100 grams or more, illegal trafficking of hydromorphone in one Quantity of 28 grams or more, illegal trafficking of hydromorphone in an amount of 100 grams or more and money laundering.
