The wild police chase began in the city's far northwest corner before ending in a crash on the South Side just seconds after the suspects left the highway, Chicago police said.

The first accident occurred in the parking lot of a White Castle in the 3200 block of West Addison Street in Irving Park around 3:39 p.m., Chicago police said.

While officers with the Downers Grover Police Department monitored the suspected criminals wanted for using the Nissan Rogue in a home burglary in Downers Grove, they observed them breaking into a home in unincorporated Kane County and another in Naperville on Friday.

Investigators found the suspects' Nissan Rogue in the parking lot of White Castle in Irving Park, Chicago.

A suburban task force officer was struck by the Nissan while trying to arrest the suspects. The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, officials said.

The Nissan then fled the scene of the accident onto the I-90 freeway. Chopper 7 was overhead as the car led Illinois State Police on a high-speed pursuit on the Dan Ryan Expressway to the south side.

During the police pursuit, the suspect abandoned the Nissan Rogue and swapped vehicles with the driver of a minivan before continuing the pursuit, investigators told ABC7.

That minivan was eventually stopped by officers in a crash in the 7100 block of South Lafayette Avenue, where two suspects were arrested. Chopper 7 captured at least one of the arrested suspects.

Chicago police said the Nissan Rogue was later recovered.

According to CPD officials, Downers Grove Police continue to investigate the incident. No charges have yet been filed.
