Milwaukee man charged with attempted murder in three separate shootings

A Milwaukee man is charged with attempted murder for three separate shootings that occurred within a month of each other.

Prosecutors renewed charges Thursday against 20-year-old Gregory Thomas-Dockery in a June 10, 2023, shooting. According to court records, this is the third time he has been charged in this shooting; Two previous cases for the same crime were previously dismissed at the request of prosecutors.

Thomas-Dockery was 18 years old when each of the three shootings occurred. In addition to attempted first-degree intentional murder in those three shootings, prosecutors also charged Thomas-Dockery with involvement in a fourth shooting in June 2023.

Here are the attempted murder counts Thomas-Dockery is charged with, listed in the chronological order in which the alleged crime occurred.

Milwaukee Police Department (MPD)

A criminal complaint says a 17-year-old was shot in the back at a gas station. Twenty-nine 9mm shell casings and three .40 caliber brass cartridges were found at the scene.

According to the complaint, a witness told police that she was getting gas when a white SUV pulled up and parked. There were two people in the SUV and four other people walked toward it; One of them eventually reached inside the vehicle. The witness said she then saw bullets “popping out of the windshield.” She said she heard about 30 shots total between two gunshots and believes the first shot was fired by people arriving in the SUV and the second shot was fired by people walking toward the SUV.

In a Facebook Live video, the complaint states that Thomas-Dockery and another man – Raedonn Simmons – were seen at the gas station. Simmons recounted the events of the shooting live, prosecutors said, and both men admitted in the video to being responsible for the shooting. Both men were also seen carrying multiple weapons during the video.

Two days later, police raided another gas station near 60th Street and Villard on June 7, 2023. There, officers found 35 spent cartridge cases. Surveillance video showed two people firing multiple shots at a vehicle as it drove north on 60th Street. The two shooters were later identified as Thomas-Dockery and Simmons. Investigators also used that video to link her to the shooting at 76th and Mill.

In that case, Thomas-Dockery is charged with attempted first-degree premeditated murder and recklessly endangering the safety of the shooting at 76th and Mill. He is accused of endangering safety by using a dangerous weapon in the shooting at 60th and Villard. He pleaded not guilty to those charges in October 2023, according to court records.

June 10, 2023 | 40th and Hadley

According to the public prosecutor's office, a then 17-year-old victim suffered twelve gunshot wounds – including thigh fractures. Officers found eight bullet casings at the scene. Several witnesses reported hearing several gunshots, seeing the shooter and finding the victim in an alley.

Video from a garage showed two people in the front seat of an SUV backing down the alley, the complaint says. Investigators linked the SUV to Thomas-Dockery, and a search of the SUV turned up a bullet casing and an airline boarding pass with the name “Simmons.”

40th and Hadley shooting, Milwaukee

The complaint says an investigator found a social media video from July 19, 2023 – more than a month after the shooting – that showed Thomas-Dockery and another person. In that video, prosecutors said the two discussed their roles in a shooting. The conversation included descriptions of what occurred on June 10, 2023 near 40th and Hadley.

Thomas-Dockery made his first court appearance Friday on the latest charges filed against him in connection with that shooting. Court records show he is charged with attempted first-degree murder, bail has been set at $200,000 and he is due back in court on Oct. 11.

Prosecutors said a 30-year-old victim was shot at a gas station and taken to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for gunshot wounds to his neck, back and arm. Police found eight bullet casings at the crime scene.

A criminal complaint states that surveillance video from the gas station shows four people – all with guns – pulling up to the gas station in a silver Nissan Sentra. Two people got out, went into the gas station convenience store and returned to the silver Nissan. The car then drove off and parked at the north end of the parking lot.

Then all four people got out — each armed with a gun — and began “guarding” the door of the convenience store, the complaint says. A video showed the victim leaving the supermarket and all four people approaching him from behind. Two of the four people were seen shooting at the victim from a distance of “up to three meters” before the victim fell to the ground.

The group then ran back to the silver Nissan, which sped away, according to the complaint. The car was found a short time later near 77th and Bender – about a mile from the scene – was “completely engulfed in flames.”

Two of the four suspects were arrested near 91st and Lynx in August 2023 when police executed a search warrant. The complaint says one of the two was Thomas-Dockery, who was wearing “the same pants” as one of the two shooters seen on surveillance. In an interview with police, the complaint states that Thomas-Dockery admitted to being at the gas station at the time of the shooting.

In this case, Thomas-Dockery is charged with attempted first-degree premeditated murder. Court records show he pleaded not guilty in September 2023.
