A man arrested during a standoff at his mother's Gardendale home had warrants and allegedly made “bizarre” threats

A man is in custody following a standoff at a home in Gardendale.

Gardendale police were notified Friday evening of a man believed to live in Cullman County who was visiting his mother at her Magnolia Street home and had an outstanding arrest warrant.

One of the warrants, Police Chief Scott Banks said, was from Jefferson County for a terroristic threat.

Banks said the man began posting “bizarre stuff” about suicide in front of a group of people on social media. They located him at his mother's house and tried to get him out, but he refused.

Police set up a perimeter and called in the SWAT team. After about two hours, officers forced their way in and took him into custody.

His mother had been able to leave the house earlier. Nobody was injured.

Banks thanked the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office for its assistance.
