Traffic stops snowball: Drug bust leads to discovery of several illegal firearms

EDGEWATER, Md. – On October 2, 2024, Southern District investigators conducted a traffic stop on a white 2016 Ford Fiesta in the area of ​​Central Avenue and Muddy Creek Road in Edgewater. During the inspection, investigators seized approximately 6.6 grams of suspected cocaine and 31 suspected oxycodone tablets (approximately 3.2 grams). The driver, 27-year-old Benjamin William Monias of Edgewater, was arrested and charged.

The ongoing investigation led to the execution of search warrants at two apartments on October 3, 2024. During a search of a home in the 1600 block of Bay Ridge Road in Edgewater, the following items were seized:

  • Silver, Colt, 1911, .38 pistol
  • Black Lama pistol, caliber 45, 1911
  • Black pistol, Colt, 1911, caliber .45
  • Black, Colt, 1911, .45 caliber, government model pistol
  • Charter Arms, Pathfinder, .22 caliber handgun
  • Ruger, Speed ​​6, .357 Magnum pistol
  • German sporting weapons, 1911, .22 caliber handgun slide
  • Remington, Model 597, .22 caliber
  • UTG Pro, .223 caliber rifle
  • Remington, 700 rifle
  • P80 pistol lower
  • Milled AR-15 handgun bottom
  • ammunition

Benjamin William Monias, who was prohibited from possessing firearms, was also charged with multiple weapons violations in connection with the items seized at the Bay Ridge Road address.

In furtherance of this investigation, a second search warrant was executed at a residence in the 200 block of South River Clubhouse Road in Harwood. The following items were confiscated during the search:

  • Glenfield, Model 60, .22 caliber
  • Glock, Model 21, .45 caliber

The investigation remains open and active.
