26-year-old dies in multi-vehicle crash on I-91, driver arrested

ROCKY HILL, CT (WFSB) – A 26-year-old woman was tragically killed in a car accident on I-91 Friday night.

The incident occurred around 8:48 p.m. when a 2011 BMW 328xi was traveling southbound in the left lane near Exit 23.

A 2017 Nissan Versa traveling in front of the BMW in the center lane skidded and collided with the BMW, resulting in a rollover.

After hitting the BMW, the Nissan moved into the right center lane and crashed into a 2020 GMC SLT in the right lane.

Both vehicles eventually came to a stop on the right shoulder, while the BMW came to a stop on the left shoulder.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as Jada Marie Upshaw, 26, of Bloomfield, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A passenger in the Nissan suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver and passenger of the GMC suffered minor injuries and were treated at the hospital.

The driver of the BMW, Jacob Texidor, 23, of New Britain, also suffered minor injuries and was transported for treatment.

All vehicles were towed from the scene and the incident is currently under active investigation.

Texidor was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

He was released on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on October 25, 2024.
