WATCH: Empangeni's water infrastructure has been tampered with, causing a 'well' to leak

Scrap collectors were reportedly the cause of a massive water leak along Empangeni's main road on Friday morning.

Motorists saw a fountain of water shooting at least five meters into the air, which was reported to the town of uMhlathuze at around 7am.

Ward 23 councilor Andre de Lange said it took the city’s sanitation team at least four hours to fix the problem.”

A valve was triggered, allegedly by scrap metal sellers [metal].

This is the line that supplies the entire city, but fortunately there have been no reports of water shortages from either households or businesses,” said De Lange.
