The word “hipster” will test your patience in NYT connections today more than those who live in your city

Welcome to the weekend, puzzle lovers! There are tons of fun things to do on this first Saturday in October that don't involve consuming pumpkin spice. (Because actually it's kind of played out and it doesn't taste that good.) You could watch Joker: Folie à Deux, but apparently that's kind of played out too and it doesn't sound that good. Luckily, there are some much better Gotham movies to return to after this film.

In the meantime, your daily sweet 16 words are back and ready for your best grouping efforts. The New York Times' popular brainbuster “Connections” features four groups of words with a common theme or similarity, but mixed in random order so you can figure them out. Remember to take your time – many words have multiple meanings. So think twice before clicking.

Today's words: JACUZZI, BIKINI, HANGER, X-RAY, Q-TIP, TOOTHBRUSH, G-STRING, CHAPSTICK, T-BONE, XEROX, HIPSTER, SKIRT, DRILL, FLEET, SINK, And tanga

Above is your visual cue for today's yellow group. Maybe it's just right for you? If you're still scratching your head, we hate to break it to you, but yellow is the easiest group.

Do you need a verbal cue? This is not a rare category. We would say it is a medium difficulty level. And if you get it done on the first try, well done!

Knock out? It's not nice of the Times to surprise us with this meaty category on an empty stomach, because now we'll be hungry all day.

Today's answer from the yellow group is Pieces of steak and his words are FILET, HANGER, SKIRT, And T BONE.

Here's your visual cue for today's blue group. It could be your Eureka! Moment. (No, sorry, that wasn't a hint.) Or it wouldn't have helped at all. Hey, let's try.

Time for the verbal clue: Other words could be here PAIN, FEAR,And FEAR…if you're a chicken like us. But filling it wasn't exactly like pulling teeth.

NO? That verbal cue should have gotten you to the finish line. Now please rinse and spit out…

Today's answer from the blue group is Involved in a dental visit and his words are DRILL, SINK, TOOTHBRUSH, And Roentgen.

We'll put it lightly and say that this is a pretty powerful visual cue. Will it get you to the finish line? That's the catch: you still have to find the right words.

Do you also need the verbal cue? How about a word that wouldn't fit here, like COMMAND? You shouldn't have to dig too deep into your mental drawers to find the answer.

Give up? This one was a little below the belt, but not by much. And it gives you a wide range of options that, frankly, sound unpleasant. (You spend all day getting it out of there, why put it there on purpose?)

Today's response from the Green group is: Types of underwear and his words are BIKINI, G-STRING, HIPSTER, And Tanga.

NYT Connections Purple Group Note

The purple group is the most difficult, so don't fret if this visual clue doesn't take you straight to the promised land.

Here's your verbal clue: These somehow always surprise us. This also applies to garbage containers, plasters and thermos flasks. You didn't know either?

Crying uncle? We love these because we spend the rest of the day coming up with others. Like Google, bubble wrap, escalator…

Today's answer from the purple group is Brands that have become general terms and his words are CHAPSTICK, JACUZZI, Q-TIP, And XEROX.

We'll see if the Times makes it easier for us tomorrow – then check back and find out!
