Husband of missing Patoka woman arrested for murder

GIBSON CO., Ind. (WFIE) – New details have emerged in the investigation into the death of previously missing Patoka woman Kayla Flaherty.

Gibson County Sheriff Bruce Vanoven says Kayla's husband, Daniel Keith Flaherty, was arrested Friday evening and booked into jail on murder charges.

According to the sheriff's office, he was arrested during the investigation into the disappearance of his wife, who was found dead just off Wabash River Road in Knox County later in the evening.

Officials say Daniel reported his wife missing Thursday evening.

“At critical times like these, we must consider several things as this investigation continues. “First and foremost, we must give Ms. Flaherty’s family sufficient time to be notified and to grieve,” Sheriff Vanoven said in a media release. “Additionally, as law enforcement officers, we must currently work with the Gibson County District Attorney’s Office to prepare to present our case to the judicial system so that Mr. Flaherty can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

We're told detectives from the Gibson County Sheriff's Office, Indiana State Police, Vincennes Police and several other law enforcement agencies worked nearly around the clock as part of the investigation.
