Felon arrested in West Haven

WEST HAVEN – A routine patrol led to the arrest of a convicted felon after West Haven police officers observed a suspicious vehicle on Saw Mill Road near the southbound ramp to I95 on Oct. 4 around 6:30 p.m.

During a traffic stop by the patrol division, it was discovered that 20-year-old Jahkyi Johnson of Bridgeport was in possession of a “ghost gun” – a firearm without a serial number – equipped with an extended magazine that could hold 24 rounds, meaning 18 of them were loaded, including one in the chamber.

Johnson, who is prohibited from owning a firearm due to his status as a convicted felon, was also identified as an offender on the deadly weapons offender registry due to a prior firearms-related conviction.

He was arrested and charged with illegal manufacture of a firearm, illegal possession of a high capacity magazine, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of ammunition.

Johnson is currently being held on bail pending further court proceedings.
