Navy vs. Air Force Score, Bottom Line: Midshipmen break four-game losing streak in rivalry to move to 5-0

Navy began its hunt for the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy on Saturday afternoon with a 34-7 road win over Air Force. The Midshipmen also snapped a four-game losing streak against the Falcons, picking up their first win over Air Force in Colorado since 2012. With a 5-0 start, Navy coach Brian Newberry has already matched his win total from a year ago.

Navy showcased its offensive excellence throughout the win. As expected, the Midshipmen were effective on the ground. They covered 329 yards on 48 carries, an average of just under seven yards per touch. All five touchdowns were the result of rushing plays, including a beautifully orchestrated 34-yard return to Nathan Kent late in the first quarter.

But the Navy was not afraid to step up its impending attack. Quarterback Blake Horvath, who rushed for his ninth and 10th touchdowns of the year, connected on nine of his 15 pass attempts for 134 yards. Eli Heidenreich had 101 of them as he continues to be a favorite target of Horvath.

As for Air Force, the Falcons are now 1-8 in their last nine games. That includes an 0-8 record against FBS opponents. Air Force is now 1-4 — coach Troy Calhoun hasn't lost more than four games since 2018.

  • Heidenreich was a star for the Midshipmen. He became the first Navy player since 2000 to have more than 100 yards receiving and more than 100 yards rushing in the same game.
  • With Saturday's result, Navy now has 218 points in five games. The Midshipmen scored 212 points in 12 games a year ago.
  • Army defeated Tulsa 49-7. That means the Navy and Army secured 25-point road victories on the same day for the first time since 1956.
